TAKE YOUR RIDING AND INSTRUCTING SKILLS TO THE NEXT LEVEL
After continuous requests from past participants we are pleased to offer this snowboard instructor course for riders who already have their CASI level I certification.
OVERVIEW
Most Level I certified riders recon that taking the CASI level I course was one of the most effective ways to improve their riding. Level II will do that much more. This 6-week snowboard instructor course is ideal for anyone wanting to really improve their snowboarding and instructing skills while preparing for their CASI level 2 certification.
LOCATION
What better resort to train at than Banff - Canada's largest ski area with three resorts (Lake Louise, Sunshine and Norquay) and home to some of the most experienced CASI coaches available.
DATES
Running from8th November to 20th December 2007this snowboard instructor course enables you to get your level 2 before the busy Christmas period so that you can instruct for the rest of the season. The resorts open in early November and at this time of year its not uncommon to experience awesome powder days with just a handful of riders on the mountain. Perfect training conditions.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
• To prepare level I CASI certified riders to take the level II CASI course • Improve your personal riding • Enjoy Canada's powder conditions, living in Banff surrounded by the incredible National Park
SUITABLE CANDIDATES
You need to be a certified Level I CASI instructor and preferably have some teaching experience and/or have participated in an instructor training course (such as the NONSTOP Snowboard 3-week, 6-week or 11-week courses). You should be passionate about developing your instructing skills and furthering your own riding. Because the level two criteria is challenging and a big step up from level 1, all participants should understand that personal snowboard and teaching development is a result of a certain amount of self discipline and athleticism.
THE COACHES
At NONSTOP Snowboardwe're proud to train more riders than any other instructor training company. This has enabled us to attract many of Canada's most qualified CASI instructors and push the standard of coaching available. With leadership from our technical director, Marc Tanquay, our pros are the perfect coaches to push your riding and help you realise your ambition of becoming a CASI level 2 instructor.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Each week from Monday to Thursday you will receive intensive coaching from NONSTOP's experienced CASI trainers. Groups are small and personal, a maximum of eight riders per pro, enabling focused tuition as well as the ability to practice your detection and teaching skills on your friends. You'll also receive the added advantage of 1-on-1 private coaching which will allow you and your coach to concentrate on specific technical or teaching skills that you want to improve. Weekly demonstration and practice teaching assessments will prepare you for the Level II course, which will be held in the last week of the course.
At the start of the course you'll be given in depth advice regarding snowboard equipment requirements as well as a scheduled boot fitting session with a qualified boot fitter. Each week there will be an indoor technical session covering central components of the level II syllabus as well as playing back video footage enabling you and your coach to analyze your riding quickly and effectively. Opportunities to shadow lessons in the local snowboard school will help you practice your teaching skills and training aids such as racing gates will be used to maximize snowboard performance. While the coaching sessions will be specific to the level II criteria you'll also be exposed to the whole mountain, learning how to make the most of Banff's famous off-piste terrain. Our coaches will have you tearing down steep powder runs, and ripping through trees and bumps...the best Level Two training available!
LEVEL II RIDING CRITERIA
Snowboarding skills will be developed based on the criteria of the level II Technical Evaluation. What you will learn:
• Course coaches will develop your riding skills to advanced level: switch riding, freestyle, varied terrain, carving and sliding turns
• Adjust your technique to a variety of snow conditions and turn types
• Adjust your snowboarding skills to provide technically sound demonstrations, which are essential teaching tools, at an intermediate to advanced level.
LEVEL II TEACHING CRITERIA
Coaching sessions will also prepare you for the level II teaching evaluation (a large jump from the level I). Snowboarders will develop an understanding of teaching from an intermediate to advanced level in accordance with the technique and methodology of CASI. What you will learn:
• Further develop your technical understanding of riding
• Incorporate a student centred teaching method
• Develop self-confidence and ability to provide the best guest experience
• Your course trainers will develop your skills for analysis and improvement
• Develop your overall lesson packaging
• Build your confidence teaching your piers and prepare you for the level II teaching evaluation.
SNOWBOARD MAINTENANCE TUITTION
We include comprehensive tuition covering snowboard design and construction plus tuning and maintenance techniques including base preparation, edge sharpening and waxing. For those that have done this session before it should act as a useful reminder.
ACCOMMODATION
Situated just a two-minute walk from the centre of Banff, the comfortable Y Mountain Lodge (www.ymountainlodge.com) is close to all the action, so the walk home from the bar will be kept short. The Lodge has a large communal lounge, gym facilities and a popular licensed bistro. Most seasonaires will share comfortable twin bedrooms, all with double beds and ensuite bathrooms. Single rooms, all of which have double beds and ensuite bathrooms are available for an additional charge of £600.
For those who are keen to spend a longer amount of time in Canada we offer flexible flight dates and additional accommodation before and after the course. Please contact us for further information.
MEALS
Weekday breakfasts are served in the lodge restaurant from where the shuttle bus whisks you away to the day's chosen resort. Our breakfasts are healthy and filling, designed to keep you going on the mountain. A selection of cereals, fresh fruit, toast & bagels, yoghurt, porridge, juice, tea and coffee. Evening meals are provided in the Lodge's licensed dining room and a selection of popular local restaurants and include a soup or salad starter and a healthy filling main course. At the weekends you can either cook in the lodge's communual kitchen or go out to one of the many restaurants in Banff.
BANFF
"Three Resorts - Lake Louise, Sunshine & Norquay"
SOCIAL EVENTS
Each week we organise a social event, which offers the chance for people to get together to do things they might not normally have done. The events are continuously being updated but include things like road hockey (a classic Canadian pass time), tobogganing, pub-crawls, watching the local ice hockey team, curling, potluck parties (you'll see), ice-skating, night skiing, and a whole lot more.
FLIGHTS
Our package includes flights from the UK to Calgary with Air Canada. A UK member of staff will be on hand at Heathrow to see you off. You'll then be welcomed into Canada by Tysen Picket, our course director, before taking the transfer bus to Banff. We can arrange alternative flight dates for those who are staying in Canada before and/or after their course. Normally there is no additional charge for this, but please check with us for further details. If you would rather organise your own flight we will deduct £450 from the price of the course.
In the unlikely event that direct flights are unavailable we will inform you of this and then look to book indirect flights instead. It is worth noting that the earlier you book your course the more likely we can secure a direct flight.
WEEKENDS & TRIPS AWAY
The weekends are yours to do with as you wish…some people will choose to chill out and rest their legs after a week of shredding while others will want to carry on riding, especially if there's a dump of Canadian Rockies powder.
KICKING HORSE TRIP (INCLUDED)
Included in the package is a day trip to Kicking Horse - a 2 hour drive from Banff. Kicking Horse is renowed for it's light dry powder and long vertical drop. As Canada's newest resort it's had a lot of media attention recently and is a perfect place to spend a day riding.
LET THE GOOD TIMES CONTINUE
If you can't face the prospect of leaving Banff (it's a common problem) you can always stay - the course is perfectly timed for those that want to spend the whole season in Canada working as an instructor or simply for people who want to ride Banff's reliable early season snow when none of the tourists are about.
