Red Mountain

The Mountain

Red has a reputation as a powder heaven with some challenging snowboarding. The resort has two mountain peaks both rideable 360 degrees around, offering awesome lines.

The Terrain

There are wide open groomed pistes and a good terrain park but it's the off-piste terrain that gets people stoked on Red. The gladded tree meadows are incredible, offering fun powder runs through both open and tree covered slopes. The steeper slopes will challenge you right through the season with plenty of over 45 degree pitches which have won recognition in plenty of ski magazines. The local backcountry options are extensive offering easy access to fresh powder when the resort has finally been tracked. Although famed for its steeps, Red also has a mellow side with half of its pistes ranked as intermediate and there's plenty of open runs ideal for perfecting your technique.

"It soon became clear that there are a huge number of runs, both mountains are skiable 360 degrees around. I’m still finding new lines and runs after 10 weeks!"

The snowboarding at Red Mountain can only be described as fun! This may sound like a strange comment considering that snowboarding should always be fun, but once you've ridden here you'll know what we mean! There are banks, gullies, kickers, natural half pipes and cliff drops all over the resort. With all this potential you'll start to use the natural terrain a lot more and your riding will improve at a much faster rate. Granite Mountain in particular is littered with rock ledges that offer drops of varying sizes depending on how big you want to go.

The average snowfall per season is 25ft which is one of the highest in North America and because the mountain is so quiet there are fresh tracks many days after a powder dump.

Red Mountain hosts a range of competitions including the Canadian Open Freeskiing Championship when extreme skiers battle it out on the steeps and cliff drops of Granite Mountain and Mount Roberts.

Due to Red's slightly steeper, more advanced terrain this 11-week course is not available to novice snowboarders.
