CHOOSING A RESORT FOR AN 11-WEEK INSTRUCTOR COURSE
Deciding to do a snowboard season is a big step in itself but choosing to do an 11-week course is an even bigger move. So it's crucial that not only you choose the right course but that you spend it at the best resort for you. These days there are snowboard instructor courses operating at dozens of resorts around the world and it's easy to feel overloaded with information with different companies offering conflicting advice about where the best place to do a course is. As one of the first snowboard instructor course companies we were fortunate to be able to pick the resorts that we believed were most suited to hosting a course. Newer companies have consistently tried to open up alongside us but have been turned away from each of the resorts we operate at. We chose four resorts from which to run our snowboard courses: Fernie, Red Mountain, Whistler and Banff. Each location offers something unique but all were chosen because in our opinion (and we've been lucky enough to ride most places) they offer the best snow and best terrain. However we feel strongly that it's more than just powder that makes your season experience - it's also about where you live, how you fit into the local community and what you gain from living in a mountain town. Fernie, Red, Banff and Whistler all offer a different experience. There's lighter snow at some resorts, deeper snow at others. Steeper terrain at some, better terrain parks at another. More nightclubs in certain towns, more welcoming locals in another. You get the gist... So really the best, and only, way for you to be sure you choose the right resort for you is to give us a call when we'll be happy to talk you through the pros and cons of each location. NONSTOP TIP: One thing to keep in mind for those who are going to be under 19 while in Canada is that the drinking age in British Columbia (BC) is 19, whereas in Alberta it's 18. Over the years we have had many 18 year olds on our BC based courses and everyone has always loved the resort they have chosen. However it can be frustrating if our group is eating in a section of a bar where 18 year olds can not enter. Banff - which is in Alberta - might therefore be more suitable for 18 year olds who have going to bars as their main consideration.
