3-Week Snowboard Instructor Course
Extra Activities
To supplement the skills developed during the coaching we organise a couple of additional courses. These mainly take place on the weekends although there will also be plenty of time for free-riding.
Cat-Boarding
One of the highlights of the Fernie experience is a day cat skiing. Similar to heli-boarding, but travelling up hill in 'snow cats/piste bashers', cat-boarding is the ultimate powder experience but at half the cost of heli-boarding. You'll get about 8-9 runs through the day and the trips up in the cat offer welcome rest breaks and a chance to share stories with your powder companions! Held on the final weekend this experience provides the perfect opportunity to test your newly developed skills in the untracked powder of the backcountry. You can book cat-boarding when booking your course for an additional cost (outlined on "The package" page) or you could leave it until you get to Canada although you may miss out if its fully booked, equally the cost will be slightly higher. We highly recommend cat-boarding as everyone comes back raving about it.
(If you don't choose this option you will be able to ski at the resort)

Avalanche course (Fernie only)
With the increasing popularity of off-piste touring in the search of fresh tracks, we realise it is essential that all our clients leave Canada with a full awareness of the risks (and pleasures) of backcountry riding and the required skills to travel and play safely out of bounds. Our optional avalanche course provides training for backcountry snowboarders covering avalanche theory, route finding, stability assessment and search and rescue techniques including the use of transceivers, shovels and probes. The course includes classroom sessions followed by instruction in the backcountry.
